Who is the Downtown Association
The Downtown Association of Vallejo began in 1948 as a Merchants Association. They formed this organization to band together and improve their sales through cooperative advertising and promotions as well as maintaining the integrity of the downtown core. In 1968 a Downtown Improvement District was formed (nearly identical to the CCRC district boundaries) in which all businesses pay double their business license fees and half of that gets pooled into one fund that the DAV receives each year to run their programs.
The DAV is responsible for the street banners as well as maintaining the parking lots. They also organize retail sales promotions throughout the downtown core and network together to increase their advertising dollars.
The DAV works closely with the CCRC and, in fact, some of their board members are also on the CCRC’s board of directors.
