DESIGN COMMITTEE

In 2003 the design Committee completed the "Design Guidelines" for the downtown district.
The goals of the Design Guidelines are:
  1. To maintain and enhance the special character of Downtown Vallejo

  2. To Improve the quality of physical changes downtown

  3. To promote the economic revitalization of the downtown district

  4. To preserve the significant historic buildings

  5. To increase public awareness of architectural quality

  6. To provide a base for objective and informed decision making

The Design Guidelines document contains recommendations for the rehabilitation of buildings as well as new construction.

The Design committee will review the Guidelines annually to keep them as clear, relevant and accurate as possible. This committee also gives input to the city on applications for façade improvement loans.

The Design committee is also working on creating a database of all the buildings in the downtown area that have any historical significance, and what it is about that building that makes it significant.
